Convert video to GIF
Turn a short part of a video into an animated GIF: your files stay on your device, nothing is uploaded, and it is free with no account.
How it works
- Choose an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video, or drop it on this page.
- Pick where the GIF starts and how long it runs, up to 15 seconds, then its width and frames a second.
- The frames are decoded in this browser tab and saved as a looping GIF. Download it when it is ready.
Questions
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens inside this browser tab, so your videos never leave your device and no server sees them. Closing the tab clears them from memory.
Why is the GIF larger than the video?
GIF is an old format: it stores every frame as a picture with up to 256 colours and has no sound, so it takes more space than video. A smaller width, fewer frames a second or a shorter part make the GIF smaller, and the result shows its size.
What are the limits, and which browsers work?
The GIF can be up to 15 seconds long, 640 pixels wide and 15 frames a second, from a video up to 2 GB. It works in Chrome and Edge, in Firefox 130 or newer on a computer, and in Safari 16.4 or newer, using the browser's own video codecs (WebCodecs). Firefox on Android cannot do it yet. If your browser cannot handle a video, the page says so as soon as you add it.
