Compress a video
Make a video take less space, or fit it under a size for email and chat: your files stay on your device, nothing is uploaded, and it is free with no account.
How it works
- Choose an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video, or drop it on this page.
- Pick Smaller, Smallest, or a size the video has to fit in, such as 25 MB for email.
- Every frame is encoded again as H.264 in this tab. Compare the sizes and download the MP4.
Questions
Are my videos uploaded anywhere?
No. The work happens inside this browser tab, so your videos never leave your device and no server sees them. Closing the tab clears them from memory.
How much smaller will it get?
It depends on the video. Smaller keeps up to 1080p and lowers the bit rate; Smallest goes down to 720p and 30 frames a second. A size you choose sets the bit rate, and a lower resolution where needed, to fit. The result shows the old and new size, and if it is not smaller, it tells you to keep the original.
What are the limits, and which browsers work?
One video up to 2 GB and 30 minutes, since every frame is encoded again; for a longer one, trim it first. It works in Chrome and Edge, in Firefox 130 or newer on a computer, and in Safari 16.4 or newer, using the browser's own video codecs (WebCodecs). Firefox on Android cannot do it yet. If your browser cannot handle a video, the page says so as soon as you add it. Safari before version 26 cannot convert sound, so sound that needs converting is left out there, and the result says so.
