Trim a video

Cut the start and end off a video and keep the part you want: your files stay on your device, nothing is uploaded, and it is free with no account.

How it works

  1. Choose an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video, or drop it on this page.
  2. Set the start and end with the sliders or the arrow keys, or play the video and press Set start and Set end.
  3. Download the trimmed video. A fast cut copies the video as it is; an exact cut encodes it again.

Questions

Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. The work happens inside this browser tab, so your videos never leave your device and no server sees them. Closing the tab clears them from memory.

Why does a fast cut start a little early?

A video stores a full picture only now and then, at a keyframe, and the frames in between build on it. A cut without re-encoding has to begin at a keyframe, so it starts at the last one before your start, and the page shows where. Choose Exact to start on the frame you picked; the video is then encoded again, which takes longer.

What are the limits, and which browsers work?

One video up to 2 GB and 4 hours; an exact cut can be up to 30 minutes long. Fast cuts copy the video without decoding it, so they work in any current browser. Exact cuts need the browser's video codecs (WebCodecs), which Chrome and Edge, Firefox 130 or newer on a computer, and Safari 16.4 or newer have. Firefox on Android does not have them yet.
