Extract audio from a video

Save the sound of a video as its own audio file: your files stay on your device, nothing is uploaded, and it is free with no account.

How it works

  1. Choose an MP4, MOV, MKV or WebM video, or drop it on this page.
  2. Keep the sound as it is, which loses nothing, or choose MP3, which plays everywhere, or WAV, an uncompressed file every audio editor opens.
  3. Download the audio file. Your video is not changed.

Questions

Are my videos uploaded anywhere?

No. The work happens inside this browser tab, so your videos never leave your device and no server sees them. Closing the tab clears them from memory.

Which format will I get? Can it be MP3?

Yes, choose MP3: the sound is encoded again at 192 kbps, and the file plays everywhere. Keeping the sound as it is re-encodes nothing: AAC sound, as in most MP4 and iPhone videos, becomes an M4A file, which phones, computers and music apps play. Opus and Vorbis sound become WebM audio, and MP3 sound becomes an MP3. Other sound is converted to AAC, or to Opus where the browser cannot make AAC.

What are the limits, and which browsers work?

One video up to 2 GB and 4 hours. Copying the sound as it is works in any current browser. Converting it, and making MP3 or WAV files, needs the browser's sound codecs: Chrome, Edge and Firefox 130 or newer on a computer, and Safari 26 or newer.
