Edit a text or code file
- Open the file. If its viewer is read-only, use Open as to switch to the text view.
- Edit with find and replace, syntax highlighting, undo and redo.
- Save. Earlier versions stay in local version history.
Reading or editing source code does not execute it.
Choose the right view
| File | Windows support |
|---|---|
| Plain text and code | Edit and save free, with version history. |
| Markdown and saved HTML | Edit Markdown beside a live preview and save free. Saved web pages open for reading; this is not a full browser. |
| CSV, TSV and legacy XLS | CSV and TSV cells save free. XLS is read-only; a values-only XLSX copy needs Pro. |
| SQLite | Browse tables and run queries free. Pro saves row edits in ordinary tables. |
| Unknown binary files | Read the bytes in hex view. |
Compare two files
Choose Compare two files in the File menu. Their text shows side by side, and the report saves free. Layout and pictures are not compared.
Preserve the original data
A .db file is not always SQLite; UFO reads the bytes to tell. Version history has a size limit and is not a backup.
